How set up my email account in Thunderbird?

step 1: open mozilla thunderbird and select 'Account Settings' from the 'Tools' menu and then click 'Add Account...'

step 3: type in your name and then your email address

step 4: select 'IMAP' and then type 'secure.isber.ucsb.edu' for your incoming server

step 5: type your login name (the prefix of the @ symbol in your email address)

step 6: click 'Next >'

step 7: check the 'Use secure connection (SSL)' and then set the other settings to your preference (preferably the same as shown here)

step 8: set your sent mail to the server folder 'sent-mail' beneath your Inbox. (you may have to close the account settings and then reopen them after you have checked your mail for the first time so thunderbird can get a list of your folders.

step 9: Click on "Junk Settings".  Check the option "Move new junk messages to:"  and then click on the radio button labeled "Other:".  Set your junk folder to"junk-mail".

step 10: click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' and verify that your settings match what is displayed here. of most importance is checking 'SSL', 'Use name and password' and setting the port to '465'.
